People Can Fly is searching for an experienced Character Artist to help drive the quality and style of our in-game characters. In this role you’ll create top-quality heroes and monsters for use in gameplay, cinematics, and even our marketing material.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We recognize that every Character Artist has his/her own pipelines and workflows based on his/her own experience and skillset. The following examples are typical of a Character Artist at People Can Fly.

  • Create characters, enemies, and weapons based on concept art or reference photos.
  • Create highpoly geo in Maya/Max/Modo
  • Create game res LP models
  • Sculpt detail and modelling in ZBrush
  • Creating textures, using photo source, or painting by-hand
  • Tune (or create) surface shaders for in-game characters
  • Work with Animators to ensure the character can be rigged and animated properly
  • Work with Lead Artists and Concept Artists to set the visual style and quality bar
  • Develop new techniques that push the quality and performances we can achieve

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to create believable characters that are full of life and personality.
  • Ability to create highpoly and lowpoly models as well as textures.
  • The ability to adapt to, and innovate, new styles and techniques
  • Strong organic modeling skills (human faces, clothing, believable creatures.)
  • Strong hard-surface modeling skills (armor, weapons)
  • Shipped game title experience
  • Very good knowledge of major 3D software packages (Maya, Max, or Modo, and ZBrush.)
  • Experience with the following is a plus: Creating surfaces shaders, rigging, animation, character concept art, and using the Unreal Engine
