Writer / Narrative Designer

dla Dark Lord w Zdalnie

Zlecenie Design

Dark Lord is a small, international indie team working fully remotely before it was cool. Right now we are developing Glitchpunk, which can be decribed as GTA2 meets cyberpunk genre, inspired by Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell and Akira.

We are looking for an EXPERIENCED Writer who will write lots of witty, interesting dialogues for our characters, and bunch of witty descriptions, barks and scripts of all sorts, using any software you like for the writing part and then organizing it in a spreadsheet format that we provide. You will be supported on all phases by the Lead Designer so you can focus on writing. All the misions design, logic, implemntation and such will be taken care of by someone else, although your creative input into what cool events can take place within the game is more than welcome. The concepts for all the content you will be developing have already been prepared (general outlines, characters, story arcs etc.). There’s no need for you to work within the engine at any point.

We plan this task to last at least until July 2021, inclusively. The overall amount of work to be done is roughly up to 50k words.

Responsibilites (percent is our rough estimate on how big part of this gig it will be):

  • writing mission dialogues for the main cast of NPCs (40%),
  • revisiting, proofreading and improving on previous dialogues, descriptions etc. (20%),
  • adding and imrpoving all sorts of short barks, descriptions for items, skills, modules, weapons, UI texts, tutorials etc. (15%),
  • take part in preparing all the in-game texts for localization, by some sorting and adjusting their specific values in spreadsheets (10%, no worries if it doesn’t sound familiar, we’ll guide how to do it exactly)
  • writing fun scripts for radio hosts and advertisements in spirit of the GTA series (5%)
  • strengthening the plot overall and suggesting changes (5%),
  • writing the game ending narrations (5%),

Requirements:

  • Very high proficiency in English (C2 preferably), with wide vocabulary and ability to write believable dialogue lines for a wide cast of characters, based on provided documentation with their descriptions,
  • Experience in working as a Writer in a gamedev team or other fast-paced media environment, preferably on a number of commercial projects (action or cyberpunk games would be a plus),
  • Solid understanding of character arcs, story beats and other modern tools for designing a narrative,
  • Being a self-discplined individual, who will ask questions when needed and provide regular updates to the team, working on a schedule and keeping high ethics.

Would be cool if:

  • There’s both a sense of humour and serious drama in your writing, along with a bunch of cool references to most important works in the cyberpunk\sci-fi niche,
  • You understand how localisation process works; once dialogues are sent to be localised they should not be altered further, unless absolutely critical, therefore you have to know when is the last call to make any changes to your work,
  • You are a fan of the cyberpunk media, so that you can distinguish and go beyond the generic aesthetics and give your own twist to the style that you know well (we will help you with that),
  • You can handle B2B, sending us invoices monthly based on a contract.

Our offer:

  • Fully flexible working hours, you just have to provide stuff on schedule and show up on online meetings (usually bi-weekly),
  • B2B contract or UoD with fair salary paid monthly (3000+ PLN net, based on your skill and experience),
  • Cool international team with a project that already gathered some attention worldwide,
  • You literally have to just work on writing and preparing text for localisation (no coding or anything else) making sure it's fun to read and touching when required, we take care of everything else and we will support you whenever needed.

We don’t need your cover letter, just your CV and portfolio. As part of the recruitment process we will probably ask you to do a small narrative oriented task. The level of complexity will depend on how much experience you have - if you will show examples of work that shows your expertise and wide vocabulary, then it will be just a quick check for a proof that you can handle it.
