We are Different Tales, an award-winning indie studio based in Warsaw, Poland. Our previous projects include Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest and Wanderlust Travel Stories.

We are looking for a Game Designer to join our team in the development of our next title, which will be released in cooperation with a leading European publisher. Our ideal candidate is passionate about crafting gameplay features that are fun and engaging, while also touching on serious, real-life themes. If that sounds like you, send your application today!

Responsibilities:
creating game design documents that describe new gameplay features;
cooperation with the programming team and art team to create those features;
implementation of those features in the Unreal Engine game editor;
balancing game systems;
updating project documentation;
planning game design pipelines;
organizing your work, which includes taking part in planning sessions and daily scrum meetings, and reporting progress in our tracking tools;
working with QA to identify and fix gameplay bugs.

Requirements:

  • 2 years of experience in a similar role, or at least one shipped title in that role;
  • experience with Unreal Engine;
  • English skills that allow you to easily communicate with the team on a daily basis; passion for creating serious games that touch on important, real-life themes.

Pluses:

  • focus on player experience, such as designing pleasant character and vehicle controls;
  • familiarity with balancing game economy;
  • level design experience, especially with setting up game mechanics directly on the level;
  • knowledge of visual scripting using Unreal Engine blueprints;
  • experience with AI setup, including daily routines for believable NPC behavior;
  • familiarity with life simulation games, such as Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia or Spiritfarer.

Job description:

  • design new gameplay features and improve existing ones, with player experience in mind;
  • implement gameplay features in the game, using the editor;
  • collaborate with the lead game designer and lead narrative designer to make sure new features are coherent with the vision of the game.

Different Tales is a mostly remote work environment, but people living in Warsaw have the possibility to work hybrid or in-office if desired.
