We are looking for a Technical Game Designer to add to our design team within the Rustic Roost studio. Rustic Roost is a sister company of Donkey Crew which focuses on co-developing titles within the Snail Games USA portfolio which Donkey Crew and Bellwright are a part of.
In this role, you’ll collaborate on an exciting variety of projects, including both world renowned IPs and new titles. You'll join an international team to share, work, and learn with individuals from different backgrounds.
Technical Skills
- Experience working as a Technical Game Designer or in a similar role (Game Designer / Gameplay Programmer).
- Advanced knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, including: Blueprint Visual Scripting, Gameplay framework,
GAS, Experience with data-driven design.
- Experience with debugging, profiling, and optimizing gameplay systems.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Perforce, Git).
- Basic understanding of C++ in Unreal Engine.
- Experience with creating and maintaining clear technical and design documentation.
Design & Problem-Solving
- Ability to collaborate closely with programmers, artists, and designers to bridge design intent and technical implementation.
- Solid understanding of gameplay systems design, including mechanics, progression, balance, and player feedback loops.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate design ideas into scalable and maintainable systems.
- Ability to rapidly prototype, iterate, and polish gameplay features based on feedback and playtests.
- Good understanding of player experience (UX) and how technical decisions impact gameplay.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication skills: able to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.
- Strong sense of ownership and responsibility for implemented systems.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to identify problems and propose solutions independently.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic production environment.
- Openness to feedback and a collaborative, growth-oriented attitude.
- Fluent English (written and spoken) for daily communication in an international team.
