Teyon is an experienced game development studio with numerous titles to its credit, including RoboCop: Rogue City, Terminator: Resistance, and RENNSPORT. We have over 150 employees, and apart from Krakow, we are also located in Łódź, Warsaw, and even Tokyo.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and creative Lead Environment Artist to join our team and lead the creation of high-quality open-world game environments. In this role, you will oversee the creation of locations and assets, ensuring a consistently high level of quality throughout the game. You will manage and mentor the Environment Art team, coordinate remote artists, review their work, and ensure timely delivery. Working closely with the Design, Tech, the Game Director, and other Leads, you will ensure that environments support engaging gameplay while meeting technical requirements. You will also help develop and refine scalable pipelines, tools, and workflows for building and optimizing the open world.

Duties

  • Lead the visual development of the game world in Unreal Engine 5, including regions, biomes, locations, architecture, materials, composition, and interactive elements.
  • Lead the Environment Art team by assigning tasks, setting priorities, conducting regular reviews, providing feedback and mentoring, and supporting the development of the team.
  • Work closely with the Lead Level Designer to transform whiteboxes into final locations, consistent with gameplay requirements, navigation, and readability.
  • Plan production together with the Producer, including task estimation, prioritization, and monitoring progress with the schedule.
  • Collaborate with Technical Art on selecting, implementing, and evaluating technical solutions, as well as developing the Environment Art pipeline.
  • Ensure that assets and locations comply with established performance, memory, and streaming budgets.
  • Collaborate with other departments on defining systems such as dynamic weather, the day-night cycle, destruction, and environmental interactions.
  • Identify and report technical, quality, and production risks before they affect development.

Required skills

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Environment Art on commercial PC or console games, supported by a portfolio.
  • Experience working as a Lead or Senior Artist with a role involving coordination, feedback, and mentoring of other artists.
  • Experience contributing to at least one shipped AA or AAA title.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 and practical experience creating and finalizing locations directly in the engine.
  • Excellent understanding of realistic environment creation, including composition, scale, architecture, materials, color, spatial readability, lighting, and environmental storytelling.
  • Good understanding of modular environment production, asset library development, asset variation, and scalable solutions for open-world production.
  • Practical knowledge of UE5 tools and systems used in large-world production, including streaming, Data Layers, Landscape, Foliage, and Lumen.
  • Excellent communication skills, independence, a problem-solving mindset, and confidence in making and owning decisions
  • Proficiency with industry-standard 3D art software, including Substance 3D Painter and ZBrush. Blender is our primary modeling software.
  • Fluency in Polish and English.
  • A strong understanding of modern games and how environments support gameplay, atmosphere, and narrative.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on open-world, survival, action, FPP or TPP games.
  • Knowledge of procedural tools such as PCG or Houdini.
