We are an indie studio developing our first PC game, Minutes to Midnight, an online co-op horror game focused on grounded, psychological dread. We're seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic UX/UI Artist to collaborate with our team on a 2-month basis, starting in August 2025.
What You'll Do
As our UX/UI Artist, you will be instrumental in defining and implementing the user experience and visual interface for our game. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating closely with our art director, designers, and developers to translate the core gameplay loop and horror vision into intuitive and visually cohesive UI/UX.
- Designing and documenting comprehensive UX flows and UI requirements to guide development and support new artist recruitment.
- Creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for all in-game interfaces.
- Developing visually compelling UI elements, icons, and menus that enhance the psychological dread and paranoia central to the game's aesthetic, while adhering to principles of clean, minimal, and immersive design.
- Ensuring that UI elements avoid clutter and over-stylization, remain readable under low-light conditions, and where applicable, favor diegetic UI (e.g., for the Safe Room and various Tools).
- Ensuring that UI elements are consistent with our "grounded paranormal horror" and "contemporary realism" principles, avoiding heroic tropes or high sci-fi concepts.
- Iterating on designs based on internal feedback and playtesting, ensuring optimal usability and player immersion.
- Preparing and organizing UI assets for efficient integration by the development team.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a UX/UI Designer, UI Artist, or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work, preferably in the horror or atmospheric game genre.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. (Specify your preferred tools).
- Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and usability best practices, particularly within game development.
- Exceptional visual design skills with an ability to create unsettling and immersive interfaces that complement a psychological horror experience.
- A strong understanding of visual hierarchy and readability, especially for low-light environments.
- Strong communication skills, capable of articulating design decisions clearly and collaborating effectively with a cross-functional team.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on design tasks while also understanding the need for collective vision adherence.
- A genuine interest in psychological horror and an understanding of how UI/UX can amplify dread, paranoia, and disorientation.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for cooperative multiplayer experiences.
- Familiarity with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and the pipeline for integrating UI assets.
- Knowledge of technical art aspects like low-poly models and texturing, which can aid in collaboration with our technical artists.
Why Join Us?
- Shape the core experience of an ambitious and unique psychological horror game.
- Work alongside a dedicated team of passionate developers and artists.
- Contribute significantly to a project where your UX/UI expertise directly impacts the player's emotional journey and survival.
