Senior Environment Artist – IBRU
Location: Remote (in Poland) | Type: Full-time | Language: English or Polish
IBRU is a science-fantasy detective RPG set in a richly imagined world where ancient mythology meets post-cyberpunk decay. Developed by a multicultural indie team in collaboration with Nobel Prize laureate Olga Tokarczuk, IBRU tells emotionally complex stories in a world shaped by the ruins of lost civilizations and techno-political intrigue.
We’re looking for a Senior Environment Artist to bring this hauntingly beautiful world to life. You will design and craft immersive environments that feel lived-in, meaningful, and mysterious. Above all, spaces that tell their own stories.
Responsibilities:
- Design, model, and texture stylized 3D environments, props, and architectural elements
- Work closely with the Art Director and Level Designers to define mood, layout, and visual storytelling across locations
- Develop and maintain modular environment kits and world-building assets
- Ensure performance-friendly assets across platforms using efficient UVs, LODs, and collision models
- Contribute to worldbuilding with visual storytelling: Weathering, signs of occupation, cultural motifs, etc.
- Collaborate with technical artists to implement shaders, lighting, and post-processing that support mood and readability
- Mentor junior artists and help define pipelines and quality standards
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience in 3D environment art for games, ideally in narrative or stylized titles
- Mastery of Blender, Maya or equivalent 3D tools, plus Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, and Unreal Engine
- Strong grasp of lighting, composition, scale, and architectural storytelling
- Ability to create both large-scale environments and intimate, detail-rich spaces
Portfolio must include:
- High-quality renders of completed environments
- Wireframe views showing clean, efficient mesh topology
- UV layout examples demonstrating logical, space-efficient packing
- At least one breakdown of your texturing and material creation process
Bonus: Experience with procedural tools, terrain systems, and hand-painted workflows
Even More Bonus Points For:
- Familiarity with Sumerian/Mesopotamian, Middle Eastern, and Central European visual motifs
- Previous experience on an RPG or detective-style narrative game
- Understanding of game design constraints and how level art supports gameplay and narrative
- Love for games like Disco Elysium, Pentiment, Return of the Obra Dinn, or Sable
What We Offer:
- A competitive salary
- A proper work contract (UOP) and all it entails
- The chance to shape a visually ambitious, emotionally intelligent RPG with literary depth
- A kind and collaborative team culture built on trust, flexibility, and creative freedom
- A fully remote work environment with flexible hours across time zones
- Participation in a stable project already supported by public grants and industry partners
