Lead 3D Environment Artist – IBRU
Location: Remote (Poland)

IBRU is a science-fantasy detective RPG set in a richly imagined world where ancient mythology meets post-cyberpunk decay. Developed by a multicultural indie team in collaboration with Nobel Prize laureate Olga Tokarczuk, IBRU tells emotionally complex stories in a world shaped by the ruins of lost civilizations and techno-political intrigue.

We’re looking for a Lead 3D Environment Artist to guide our environment art team and help shape the visual identity of IBRU. You’ll be responsible for driving both the creative and technical quality of our environments, ensuring that every space feels alive, atmospheric, and unforgettable.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and uphold the visual direction for environments in collaboration with the Art Director
  • Lead, mentor, and review the work of environment artists, ensuring consistent quality and style
  • Design workflows and pipelines that keep production smooth and efficient
  • Balance creative vision with technical constraints, ensuring optimized, performance-friendly assets
  • Collaborate with design, narrative, and tech teams to ensure environments support gameplay and storytelling
  • Set standards for modular kits, topology, UVs, shaders, and lighting across the project
  • Be a hands-on contributor: model, texture, and light high-quality environments as needed

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in 3D environment art for games, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role
  • Expert-level knowledge of Blender, Maya, or equivalent 3D tools; Substance Painter/Designer; Photoshop; Unreal Engine
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience mentoring and guiding other artists
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain art pipelines and documentation

Portfolio MUST include:

  • Strictly game assets, no cinematic or ‘nanite ready’ mesh behemoths with millions of verts, nor megascan-based level art
  • Wireframe views showing clean, efficient mesh topology
  • UV layout examples demonstrating logical, space-efficient packing, understanding and use of Trim Sheets and Texture Atlases
  • At least one breakdown of your environment creation process showing workflow and problem-solving
  • Material examples
  • High-quality renders of completed environments

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience building or leading teams on semi-open world, or stylized games
  • Familiarity with Sumerian/Mesopotamian, Middle Eastern, and Central European aesthetics
  • Experience with procedural tools, UE PCG, terrain workflows, or shader development
  • Passion for titles like Disco Elysium, Pentiment, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, or Dishonored
