About Spiel

Spiel is an independent game studio developing games in Unreal Engine 5.
We are currently working on an unannounced classic car game, focused on immersion, strong visual identity, and a large, living world.

We value technical craftsmanship, clean pipelines, and long-term project vision over rushed production.

The Role

We are looking for a Technical Artist to help us build and optimize the game world — from assets and materials, through animation support, to streaming large environments.

You will work closely with:

3D artists

animators

gameplay and engine programmers

Your work will have a direct impact on visual quality and performance.

Responsibilities

optimize assets (meshes, materials, LODs, Nanite)

develop and maintain the art pipeline (DCC → Unreal Engine 5)

create and optimize materials (PBR / Substrate)

work with Blueprints and technical tools

support the team with GPU/CPU performance optimization

debug visual issues (lighting, shading, VT, UDIM)

support animation workflows (import, retargeting, anim blueprints)

work with World Partition and large open worlds

collaborate on vehicle and environment systems

Requirements

strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 5

experience as a Technical Artist / Tech Art

solid understanding of PBR materials, shaders, UVs, LODs

ability to work with Blueprints

understanding of real-time performance (GPU/CPU, streaming)

experience with DCC tools (Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max)

team-oriented mindset and gamedev experience

Nice to Have

experience with animations (skeletal meshes, animation blueprints, retargeting)

hands-on experience with World Partition (streaming, data layers)

experience with Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Textures

basic C++ knowledge

experience on car games, open-world titles, or simulations
