Position Overview
We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Lead Real-Time VFX Artist specializing in Unity3D to define and lead the VFX vision across multiple projects. In this hands-on leadership role, you will shape efficient workflows, mentor artists, and deliver real-time effects that elevate gameplay, atmosphere, and storytelling. You will collaborate closely with Art Directors, Tech Artists, and Developers to ensure high visual quality and optimized performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creative and technical direction for real-time VFX across Unity3D projects
- Establish and maintain scalable, efficient workflows using Unity’s VFX Graph, Shader Graph, and custom tools
- Create high-quality, performant effects including explosions, fire, smoke, magic, environmental FX, and dynamic weather
- Integrate VFX seamlessly into Unity’s URP and HDRP pipelines
- Mentor and review the work of VFX artists, providing feedback to foster consistency and growth
- Develop shaders and materials using Shader Graph, Amplify, and HLSL for complex visual effects
- Collaborate with lighting, tech art, and gameplay teams to align VFX with artistic and gameplay goals
- Optimize effects to meet real-time performance requirements
- Oversee external VFX contributions to ensure alignment with Beffio’s standards
- Participate in client calls to present progress and align on creative direction
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in real-time VFX, with at least one shipped AA or AAA title
- Deep understanding of Unity3D (URP, HDRP, SRP) and real-time VFX workflows
- Mastery of Unity’s VFX Graph, Particle System, and Shader Graph
- Technical skills in HLSL, C# scripting, and shader/material creation
- Experience with profiling tools and performance optimization
- Proficiency in tools such as EmberGen, Houdini, After Effects, or similar
- Strong artistic sense including color, motion, timing, scale, and visual storytelling
- Proven leadership experience, including mentoring or leading artists
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, Perforce)
- Excellent written and spoken English skills
- A polished portfolio showcasing high-quality real-time effects in Unity3D
Bonus Skills
- Experience with Unreal Engine (Niagara, Cascade)
- Familiarity with Python or C# tool development
- Knowledge of lighting, post-processing, and cinematic FX
- Understanding of procedural VFX workflows in Houdini
- A passion for innovation and pushing the boundaries of real-time visuals
