At Simteract, we're elevating the simulation gaming experience from "Train Life" to the recently launched "Taxi Life," which features a detailed slice of Barcelona. We're known for creating immersive open-world experiences that captivate players. As we set the stage for an exciting new project, we're seeking a Senior UX Designer to play a crucial role in its development. If you're an experienced professional with a passion for innovation and a talent for crafting game mechanics that captivate players, we invite you to join Simteract. Be a part of the team shaping the next chapter in simulation gaming.

✔️ Portfolio demonstrating shipped UX work on at least 2 PC/console games (not mobile) - showing player flows, HUD logic, menu system structure, and controller navigation.
✔️ Strong experience designing player flows and user journeys - you think in systems and sequences, not just screens.
✔️ Knowledge of console UX specifics: controller navigation, target sizing, platform-specific conventions (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch), and accessibility considerations.
✔️ Comfortable working with a design system as a single source of truth - collaborating with UI/art on components and ensuring consistency across features.
✔️ Working knowledge of Unreal Engine - you understand how engine constraints and widget systems affect UX decisions, and your proposals are implementable, not theoretical.
✔️ Understanding of game feel as UX: sound, animation, colour, and timing as tools for communicating game state to the player.
✔️ Ability to work independently and proactively - you define functional standards and drive UX quality without needing step-by-step direction.
✔️ Genuine interest in games: you can discuss 5+ titles from the last 2 years across different genres, identifying what works and what doesn’t in their UX/UI.
✔️ Proficiency in English at a B2/C1+ level, both written and spoken.
✔️ Designing player flows and user journeys for features across projects - documented and approved before implementation begins.
✔️ Maintaining a shared design system as the single source of truth for UI implementation - working with UI/art on components and ensuring consistency across features.
✔️ Owning UX review before every milestone: reviewing features for usability, consistency, and player clarity before they go to the publisher or QA.
✔️ Collaborating closely with Game Design - participating in design meetings, reviewing spikes, and ensuring UX considerations are part of feature design from the start.
✔️ Working within Unreal Engine constraints: designing solutions that are both excellent for the player and feasible to implement.
✔️ Supporting playtesting methodology: defining UX success criteria, observing playtests, and translating findings into actionable design changes.
✔️ Ensuring consistent UX quality across PC and console: designing for both keyboard/mouse and controller, with platform-appropriate solutions where the experience diverges.
✔️ Defining and enforcing Definition of Done for UX/UI deliverables.
✔️ Visual UI design skills - ability to create polished mockups, component libraries, iconography, and style guides.
✔️ Experience with simulation, sandbox, or vehicle-themed games.
✔️ Experience running or participating in UX playtests and analysing results.
✔️ Formal education in UX, HCI, or a related field.
✔️ Understanding of player psychology and behavioural patterns.
✔️ Foundations in game design - enough to participate meaningfully in design discussions and challenge assumptions.
✔️ Basic programming knowledge or Blueprint scripting in Unreal Engine.
✔️ Motion design skills - ability to prototype UI animations and transitions.
