
Superkami is a fully remote studio led by industry veterans. In 2021, we set out to create "Sengoku Dynasty," a cross-genre survival-builder set in Feudal Japan. In August 2023 we released the game into Early Access, in November 2024 we reached the 1.0 launch, and in August 2025 the game was released on consoles.
We're currently looking for a Senior Unreal Engine Programmer to join a small, agile team, working on a new historical survival-builder game awaited by a large community of devoted fans. Be there from the start – and help us shape a new classic!
Role
Your will own gameplay systems in a realistic 4-player co-op title built in Unreal Engine 5.
That will usually mean:
- Building character and combat mechanics in Gameplay Ability System
- Developing NPC behavior in StateTree: daily routines, work schedules, navigation
- Profiling and fixing CPU and memory problems in your systems, and keeping large NPC populations cheap (Significance Manager, streaming, soft references)
- Maintaining frameworks behind character appearance, progression and equipment
- Making sure your systems replicate correctly between host and clients
- Working with animators on locomotion and other animation-heavy features
- Keeping code in good shape
- Suggesting improvements
Key Skills
To thrive in this role, you should be good at:
- Independently taking a feature from design doc to working implementation
- Spotting cross-system dependencies before they bite
- Debugging performance problems in your systems
- Reading and adapting other people's code, from marketplace plugins to engine internals
- Switching between very different problem domains without losing momentum
- Expressing yourself clearly, respectfully and assertively (in written and spoken English)
Requirements
- Strong C++ and deep working knowledge of UE5, comfortable moving between native code and Blueprints
- At least one shipped UE4/UE5 title or equivalent commercial production experience
- Hands-on experience with Gameplay Ability System
- Solid understanding of replication and client-server logic
- Experience with Unreal's AI tools: StateTree or Behavior Trees, navigation, perception
- Familiarity with profiling tools, soft references and async loading
Optional
- Working knowledge of the animation pipeline (Anim Blueprints, State Machines, IK)
- Experience with runtime mesh generation or character customization systems
- Experience with Significance Manager or a similar importance/LOD system
- Shipped co-op multiplayer game
- Experience working in a remote environment
