Ironbird Creations is a development studio based in Krakow, currently working on a fast-paced, combat-oriented and fully funded action-adventure game, Phantom Hellcat.
We are looking for an experienced Unity Optimization Engineer to join our team and help us achieve the best possible performance across PC and current-generation consoles.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Unity performance optimization, HDRP rendering, and console hardware limitations, with a strong focus on delivering stable frame rates, efficient memory usage, and high visual quality.
Responsibilities:
- Profile, analyze, and optimize game performance across CPU, GPU, and memory usage
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, frame time spikes, FPS drops, and stuttering issues
- Optimize rendering performance in Unity HDRP, including shaders, lighting, shadows, post-processing, and volumetric effects
- Analyze and optimize shaders created with Shader Graph, Amplify Shader Editor, and HLSL
- Profile and optimize game builds directly on target hardware
- Optimize C# code, memory allocations, and garbage collection to improve runtime performance
- Analyze and optimize game assets, including textures, meshes, materials, and animations
- Adjust graphical settings and rendering budgets to meet the performance requirements of individual platforms
- Conduct performance audits of existing game systems and develop structured optimization plans
- Establish and maintain target frame rates, frame time budgets, and memory budgets across supported platforms
- Measure, document, and communicate optimization results using before-and-after performance comparisons
- Collaborate closely with Programmers, Technical Artists, and Art teams to identify and resolve performance-related issues
Our requirements:
- Strong professional experience in Unity performance profiling and optimization
- Very good knowledge of CPU, GPU, and memory profiling techniques
- Proven ability to independently identify, analyze, and eliminate performance bottlenecks
- Hands-on experience with Unity Profiler, Profile Analyzer, Memory Profiler, and Frame Debugger
- Experience profiling and optimizing standalone game builds on target hardware, rather than relying solely on Unity Editor profiling
- Strong understanding of frame time, frame pacing, FPS stability, and stuttering analysis
- Very good knowledge of Unity HDRP (High Definition Render Pipeline) and its performance optimization
- Experience analyzing and optimizing shaders using Shader Graph, Amplify Shader Editor, or HLSL
- Strong understanding of rendering costs, including draw calls, overdraw, batching, culling, LOD systems, and shadow rendering
- Experience optimizing lighting, post-processing, volumetric effects, and other performance-intensive HDRP features
- Good understanding of GPU optimization techniques and rendering performance budgets
- Very good knowledge of C# in Unity, particularly in the context of runtime performance and memory management
- Experience reducing garbage collection, memory allocations, and CPU spikes
- Practical knowledge of asset optimization, including textures, meshes, materials, and animations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve memory usage and resource management issues
- Participation in the development of at least one completed or shipped console title
- Familiarity with console-specific profiling tools, including PIX and platform-specific development tools
- Proven ability to achieve and maintain target frame rates and memory budgets on consoles
- Ability to independently conduct performance audits, prioritize optimization tasks, and develop actionable improvement plans
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to measure and document optimization results
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary development teams
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of Unity Addressables, asset streaming, and loading time optimization
- Experience optimizing open-world games or large, complex environments
- Familiarity with dynamic resolution scaling and modern upscaling technologies such as FSR and DLSS
- Experience working on third-person action-adventure games or other visually demanding 3D titles
- Passion for games and a strong understanding of the balance between visual quality and performance
